Small Business Credit Leader Banking

About the position
Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking an accomplished Small Business Credit Professional to take on a high-impact leadership role within their Retail Small Business Lending Department. This individual must bring a strong track record in small business credit, including active lending authority of $1 million or more, and demonstrated success managing high-performing credit and servicing teams.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of credit managers and servicing professionals
- Align team objectives with the Banks strategic goals and risk appetite
Credit Underwriting & Oversight
- Conduct transactional underwriting with a focus on complex and high-dollar credits
- Provide subject matter expertise on C&I and CRE loan products with exposures up to $3MM
Training & Development
- Design and implement training programs to elevate team capabilities and ensure regulatory compliance
Performance & KPI Management
- Monitor department KPIs and ensure team performance consistently meets or exceeds benchmarks
Strategic Credit Direction
- Advise on portfolio strategy, renewal evaluations, and credit appetite refinements
- Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to ensure sound credit decisions
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors Degree required (Associate Degree plus 2 years of commensurate experience accepted in lieu)
- Experience: 10-15 years in banking/credit, with recent experience in a leadership capacity
- Lending Authority: Demonstrated lending authority of $1 million+ is required
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong familiarity with FDIC, OCC, and other banking regulations

- Deep knowledge of Small Business Lending, especially in C&I and CRE sectors
