Role Overview:

Sancta Maria is seeking an experienced and inspiring Head of Physical Education (PE) to lead its whole-school PE and sports programme. The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in shaping the schools vision for health, fitness, and competitive sport, while fostering student participation, excellence, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the PE department, including curriculum planning, staff development, and resource allocation

• Design and deliver an engaging, inclusive, and comprehensive PE curriculum across all grade levels

• Promote a strong sports culture within the school by overseeing extracurricular activities, inter-house competitions, and school teams

• Coach and support students in a variety of sports, encouraging both mass participation and high performance

• Identify and nurture athletic talent, developing training pathways for school representation and competitive success

• Ensure the safe and effective use of all sports facilities and equipment

• Collaborate with senior leaders on strategic initiatives that promote student well-being, fitness, and lifelong physical literacy

• Organise and manage whole-school events such as Sports Days and inter-school fixtures

• Monitor student progress, report achievements, and implement strategies for inclusive participation

• Uphold the schools safeguarding policies and promote a culture of respect, sportsmanship, and teamwork

Candidate Profile:

• A degree in Physical Education or related field (Masters level preferred)

• Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, B.Ed.)

• Significant experience teaching and leading PE in an international or high-performing school setting

• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of PE staff and sports coaches

• Strong leadership and organisational skills, with a track record of delivering a high-quality PE programme

• Expertise in multiple sports disciplines and up-to-date knowledge of PE pedagogy and trends

• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with staff, students, and parents

• First aid certification and coaching certifications in key sports are advantageous
