The Opportunity We are collaborating with multiple companies in Ludington seeking experienced Laser Weld Engineers. Key Responsibilities Develop, optimize, and document laser welding processes for new and existing products. Troubleshoot and resolve laser welding equipment malfunctions and process quality issues. Specify, procure, and oversee the installation of new laser welding systems and ancillary equipment. Establish and maintain weld quality standards, conduct inspections, and implement corrective actions. Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams on weld joint design and fixture requirements. Provide technical support and training to production operators and maintenance technicians on laser welding operations. Recommended Qualifications Deep expertise in laser welding processes, equipment (fiber, YAG), and optics. Strong understanding of metallurgy and material science related to weldability of diverse metals. Proven experience in developing, optimizing, and qualifying laser welding parameters and procedures for manufacturing. Proficiency in troubleshooting welding defects, root cause analysis, and implementing robust corrective actions. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for weld path programming and fixture design, and knowledge of relevant welding standards (e.g., AWS, ISO). Bonus Qualifications Experience with advanced laser welding techniques (e.g., remote welding, wobble welding, hybrid welding). Proficiency in welding simulation software (e.g., SYSWELD, COMSOL). Experience integrating laser welding with robotic systems and automated cells. Strong understanding of laser optics, beam delivery systems, and optical component selection. Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods specific to laser welds (e.g., CT scanning, advanced ultrasonics).
