The Opportunity We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in St. Johns that are seeking skilled Laser Weld Engineers. Key Responsibilities Develop, optimize, and qualify laser welding processes for various materials and applications. Specify, install, troubleshoot, and maintain laser welding equipment and associated tooling. Establish and monitor quality control procedures for laser welded components, ensuring adherence to specifications. Analyze and resolve root causes of laser weld defects and process inefficiencies. Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles for laser welding. Conduct material characterization and weld joint analysis to improve process robustness and product performance. Develop and maintain comprehensive process documentation, work instructions, and training materials. Recommended Qualifications Strong foundation in laser physics, optics, and their application to materials processing, specifically laser welding. Demonstrated experience in developing, optimizing, and validating laser welding processes for manufacturing environments. Proficiency in welding metallurgy, material science, and joint design for various material types. Ability to troubleshoot complex laser welding equipment, automation systems, and process-related defects. Familiarity with weld quality inspection techniques (e.g., visual, destructive, NDT) and statistical process control (SPC). Bonus Qualifications Experience with robotic laser welding systems or automation integration. Proficiency with vision systems for weld inspection or part alignment. Familiarity with advanced metrology techniques (e.g., CT scanning, X-ray inspection) for weld quality assessment. Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) or Six Sigma methodologies.
