The Opportunity We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in Lansing that are seeking skilled Laser Weld Engineers. Key Responsibilities Develop, optimize, and implement laser welding processes for new and existing products. Specify, commission, and troubleshoot laser welding equipment and associated automation. Design and develop welding fixtures, tooling, and part presentation methods to ensure weld quality and repeatability. Conduct root cause analysis on weld defects and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Establish and maintain process parameters, work instructions, and quality control plans for laser welding operations. Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure product weldability and manufacturability. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance weld quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Recommended Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Welding, or Manufacturing Engineering. 3-5+ years of hands-on experience with industrial laser welding systems (e.g., fiber, Nd:YAG). Demonstrated expertise in laser weld parameter development, optimization, and troubleshooting. Strong understanding of metallurgy, material science, and weldability of common manufacturing alloys. Proficiency in fixture design, automation integration (robotics, PLCs), and process control methodologies (SPC, DOE). Experience with weld defect analysis, root cause identification, and implementing corrective actions for yield improvement. Bonus Qualifications Experience integrating laser welding with robotic or automated systems. Proficiency in programming PLCs or vision systems for manufacturing applications. Knowledge of other advanced joining technologies (e.g., electron beam, friction stir welding). Certification in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
