Expertise Mechanical Fitter

About the position

On behalf of our client, ManPower Malta is looking to recruit an Expertise Mechanical Fitter.

This role is responsible for overseeing mechanical overhauls and maintenance on marine vessels, including complete engine rebuilds, turbocharger servicing, hydraulic system repairs, and maintenance of rotary equipment like pumps and compressors.

Job Responsibilities

• Oversee mechanical overhauls on marine engines, turbochargers, hydraulic systems, and rotary equipment
• Perform precision machining tasks including shaft alignment, gear cutting, CNC operations, and tolerance checks
• Ensure compliance with environmental standards for waste disposal, pollution prevention, and maritime regulations (IMO, MARPOL)
• Enforce strict safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and lead emergency response training
• Supervise and mentor a team of mechanics and technicians, assigning tasks and monitoring quality
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, failures, and repairs; prepare technical reports
• Coordinate readiness for inspections and class surveys.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with diesel/gas engines, turbochargers, hydraulics, pneumatics, and marine systems
• Skilled in machining (lathe, milling, grinding, CNC), blueprint reading, welding, and fabrication
• Solid knowledge of IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, and class society regulations.
• Proficient in safety practices for confined space entry, hot work, and working at heights
• Proven leadership and team management capabilities under tight schedules
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
