About the position
Our client is seeking a licensed and experienced Dentist to deliver comprehensive dental care within a correctional facility. This role focuses on providing routine and emergency dental services, overseeing the dental program, and maintaining compliance with clinical and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a full range of dental care services, including exams, x-rays, cleanings, extractions, fillings, dentures, and root canals (anterior and premolars).
- Diagnose oral conditions and develop individualized treatment plans for inmates/residents.
- Manage and oversee the facilitys dental program, ensuring quality of care and compliance with protocols.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, disease prevention, and post-treatment care.
- Maintain accurate and confidential dental records, documentation, and billing logs.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate dental staff; collaborate with medical personnel for coordinated care.
- Monitor inventory and ensure proper handling of medications, dental instruments, and controlled substances.
- Maintain a clean, secure, and safe clinical environment following infection control protocols.
- Coordinate and evaluate contract dental services and external referrals when necessary.
- Participate in budget planning, cost analysis, and operational efficiency reviews.
- Ensure adherence to legal, regulatory, and facility-specific policies and procedures.
- Participate in safety audits, emergency response efforts, and incident documentation.
- Communicate professionally with facility leadership, staff, patients, and external stakeholders.
- Support compliance with accreditation and licensure standards.
- Respond to legal inquiries or court proceedings as needed, with the support of corporate counsel.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) or Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school.
- Current and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the state of employment.
- Minimum of one year of professional dental experience preferred.
- Strong clinical, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to perform duties in a secure correctional environment and remain calm under pressure.
- Valid drivers license preferred (as required by facility or contract).
- Familiarity with correctional protocols and standards is strongly preferred.
