Assistant Director of Engineering

About the position

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Assistant Director of Engineering to support the Director in leading and managing the engineering and maintenance functions of our facility. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring systems and equipment function optimally, managing staff, and supporting capital improvement projects while upholding safety, compliance, and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Engineering in planning, organizing, and overseeing all engineering operations, maintenance, and repair activities.

  • Lead and supervise engineering and technical staff, ensuring optimal performance, training, and development.

  • Ensure the proper operation of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and life safety systems.

  • Monitor and maintain compliance with safety codes, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Support budgeting and cost control for engineering operations, maintenance contracts, and capital projects.

  • Coordinate and supervise contractors, vendors, and service providers.

  • Participate in the design, planning, and execution of renovations, upgrades, and construction projects.

  • Oversee the implementation of preventive maintenance programs and asset management systems.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions to minimize downtime and disruptions.

  • Prepare reports on maintenance activities, project progress, energy usage, and system performance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

  • 57 years of progressive experience in engineering, facilities management, or building maintenance.

  • Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of building systems, safety regulations, and energy management practices.

  • Proficiency in Building Management Systems (BMS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and MS Office.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certifications (e.g., LEED, OSHA, PMP).

  • Experience in hospitality, healthcare, commercial real estate, or industrial facilities.

  • Working knowledge of sustainability initiatives and energy efficiency programs.
