Design Engineer (Interior Architecture / Marine Fit-Out)

About the position

Overview:
We are working with a specialist firm in the marine and architectural fit-out industry to recruit a Design Engineer (Interior Architecture / Marine Fit-Out) with a strong foundation in concept development, technical design, and project documentation. This role involves leading the design process for interior fit-out projects, managing junior designers and engineers, and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality deliverables from concept to execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and lead the design development process to align with project objectives, functional requirements, and technical specifications.
  • Prepare conceptual designs, visual presentations, 3D renderings, and material boards for client approval.
  • Produce detailed design drawings, FF&E schedules, material selections, and mood boards as part of the design documentation package.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members in the production of construction drawings and technical deliverables.
  • Ensure all project documentation and drawings are consolidated, updated, and properly maintained.
  • Coordinate closely with design, engineering, and site teams to ensure smooth project integration and execution.
  • Serve as a liaison with subcontractors, suppliers, regulatory agencies, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Oversee junior engineers in preparing detailed technical submissions, ensuring compliance with design intent and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in interior design or architectural roles within marine or commercial fit-out environments.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, Photoshop, or similar design and rendering tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of fit-out construction methods, architectural detailing, and material usagemarine sector experience is an advantage.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and communication skills, with the ability to guide junior staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
