Position: Controls Estimating Supervisor (Building Automation Systems)

Overview:

A leading integrator of building automation solutions is seeking a Controls Estimating Supervisor to lead its BAS estimating team at the Irving, TX branch. This position is ideal for a highly experienced estimator with a background in mechanical systems controls design, DDC estimating, and leadership experience.

Role Summary:

The Controls Estimating Supervisor plays a critical role in supporting sales by overseeing accurate and competitive project estimates. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in Building Automation Systems, along with strong leadership capabilities to guide and develop a high-performing estimating team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and manage the BAS estimating team, ensuring timely and accurate project estimates.

• Support salesforce with technical estimating expertise for Building Automation projects.

• Perform detailed project takeoffs, cost estimation (materials, labor, installation), and subcontractor quote management.

• Design mechanical systems controls including product selection (sensors, valves, end devices) to meet performance and budget criteria.

• Develop network designs using systems such as Alerton, Distech, Honeywell, and Tridium.

• Attend and lead internal pre-bid meetings with the sales team and other stakeholders.

• Interact directly with MEP engineers, contractors, and vendors to clarify scopes and ensure comprehensive estimates.

• Assist in bid proposal writing and documentation.

• Manage project files, construction plans, job takeoffs, and scope change documentation.

• Participate in project turnover meetings to ensure a smooth transition to engineering and operations teams.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• 3+ years of experience in BAS estimating and DDC controls systems.

• 1+ year of experience in commercial HVAC.

• Familiarity with Tridium, Distech, and Alerton control systems.

• Solid understanding of Microsoft Office applications.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Knowledge of mechanical systems and controls design.

• Experience estimating material and labor costs.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.

• 5+ years of experience in BAS estimating.

• 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC.

• Experience with Bluebeam, Bid Tracer, and construction takeoff tools.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD for drawing preparation.

• Advanced experience in mechanical systems and BAS network design.

• Strong proposal writing and project handoff documentation skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs throughout the workday.

• Maintain a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record (if assigned a company vehicle or mileage reimbursement program).
