About the position
Lead Cabling Technician - Madison, Wisconsin
The Role:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Cabling Technician to install, repair, and maintain structured cabling systems according to industry specifications and standards, including the Wisconsin Building Code. This individual will be responsible for leading medium to large-scale installation crews and ensuring the quality and accuracy of all work performed.
Responsibilities:
- Lead medium to large (38 technicians) cabling crews for installations.
- Install and terminate Category 5e, 6, and 6a cabling.
- Perform copper cable testing and maintain accurate documentation.
- Dress racks, patch panels, and implement proper wire management.
- Complete terminations on 110 & 66 blocks.
- Install various types of multi-media cables and perform associated terminations.
- Install external raceway systems.
- Cross-connect CO lines and extensions.
- Install and terminate fiber optic cables, perform testing, and document results.
- Install sound/paging, access control, security, and video surveillance equipment.
- Work with Audio/Visual, CCTV, Access Control, and Security systems including software setup, basic programming, and user training.
- Support Level I, II, and other Lead Technicians as needed.
- Perform subcontracted service work on behalf of national clients.
- Prepare and document all installations, including cable paths and test results (as-builts and schematics).
- Maintain assigned vehicle (if applicable).
- Accurately record time and materials used per project.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Skills and Specifications:
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with co-workers.
- Physically able to climb ladders and lift heavy equipment.
- Proficient in the safe operation of scissor and boom lifts.
- Basic math skills required.
- Willingness to travel and be on-call 24/7 as needed.
Pay Rate:
$35 - $45 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
