Founded in 2001, this non for profit organization operates with the mission to work with citizens and governments to transform the quality of life in Indias cities and towns - the first being quality of urban infrastructure and services, that is, roads, drains, transport, water supply and the second is the quality of citizenship that is, the role that urban citizens can play by participating in civic matters.
It believes building robust city systems is the key to robust cities. The core main pillars of work constitute civic participation (enabling active citizen participation in city governance), municipal finance (improving financial sustainability and accountability), and policy and insights (reforming city systems and strengthening state capacities).
The organization has made a considerable impact over the last 23 years - for example, the city of Bangalore allocated INR 120 crores through MyCityMyBudget in 2020-21. In Odisha, platforms for participation catalyzed 1.6 million citizens in 2900 urban poor settlements in the state.
It's also been awarded and recognized for commendable work, for instance, the IChangeMyCity received the Google Global Impact Award in 2013, the Swachhta app developed for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs was judged as the Best Sanitation App at India Today Safaigiri Awards 2017, and many more.
The organization is currently backed by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Ford Foundation, Brown University, Rainmatter Foundation, TPG, GIZ and UK Online Giving Foundation.
They are looking for a highly passionate and competent professional to be part of their Development and Fundraising team. The role will involve working closely with the Head - Development, CEO, and senior program leads in conceptualizing multi-year program partnerships with Foundations, Philanthropies, Multilaterals like the World Bank, ADB, USAID, and so on.
What will the Manager/Senior Manager - Development really do?
Support in Fundraising
- Work closely with the Head - Development, and senior program leads in conceptualizing multi-year program partnerships with Foundations, Philanthropies, Multilaterals (World Bank, ADB, etc.), and Bi-Laterals (USAID etc)
- Write and review funding proposals and concept notes to engage funder interest and convert to grant or revenue streams.
- Deep understanding of the philanthropy ecosystem and can stitch coherent and compelling proposals and presentations to aid the medium to long-term financial sustainability of the organization.
- Negotiating and finalizing funder requirements and agreements.
- Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with donor institutes
Donor/Prospect Management
- Research and identify prospective bilateral, foundation, HNI, and corporate funders.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to relationships with major donors and high-net-worth Individuals, maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
- Develop strong working relationships with staff in all areas. Actively participate in planning and meeting goals as an integral team member
- Collaborate with team members in the organization to understand our diverse programmes and interventions
- Writing, editing, and overseeing the completion and submission of reports on all grants
- Keeping a record of all grant reports due during the calendar year
Qualifications and Experience
- Master's degree or equivalent in business administration, public administration, public policy, or other directly relevant fields
- More than 10 years of work experience in the not-for-profit sector
- Prior experience in Fundraising, Business Development, constructing funding proposals, and RFPs
- A deep knowledge of Climate Change/ Gender/ Public Health sectors would be considered a big positive
- A high level of computer literacy is required, including familiarity with CRMs or relational databases, and proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Possess a solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants
What competencies does it take to be a Manager/Senior Manager Development?
- Excellent research skills and a deep knowledge of the funding ecosystem
- Ability to learn quickly on the job; willingness to adapt; excels in working across multi-disciplinary teams and exhibits superior project management skills
- Able to deal with ambiguity
- Excellent communication skills- both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage working relationships with Large Donors
- Highly Self-Motivated, can take complete ownership and work independently in an unstructured work environment with minimal supervision
