About the position
Position Summary
The Chief of Staff for the Founder's Office will serve as a strategic partner to the Founder and Chairman, managing high-priority initiatives and ensuring efficient operations of the Founder's Office. This role requires exceptional organizational abilities, strategic thinking, and diplomatic skills to effectively support the Founder's vision and extend their reach and impact across the organization and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Support & Advisory
- Serve as a trusted advisor and sounding board to the Founder/Chairman on strategic matters, organizational priorities, and external engagement
- Anticipate the Founder's needs and proactively prepare materials, insights, and recommendations
- Support strategic planning processes and help translate the Founder's vision into actionable plans
- Provide critical analyses of organizational challenges and opportunities
- Filter, prioritize, and escalate issues requiring the Founder's attention
Executive Communication & Representation
- Draft and edit high-stakes communications including speeches, presentations, articles, and correspondence
- Represent the Founder in internal meetings and select external forums when appropriate
- Ensure consistent messaging aligned with the Founder's vision across all platforms
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders on behalf of the Founder
- Prepare briefing materials for the Founder's meetings and engagements
Project Management & Implementation
- Oversee critical cross-functional initiatives and special projects emanating from the Founder's Office
- Drive high-priority strategic initiatives from conceptualization to implementation
- Monitor progress of key organizational priorities and remove obstacles to success
- Coordinate with department heads and senior leadership to ensure alignment with the Founder's vision
- Implement systems to track deliverables and ensure accountability
Knowledge Management & Decision Support
- Synthesize complex information into clear, concise briefs for the Founder
- Establish knowledge management systems for the Founder's Office
- Conduct research on emerging trends, competitive landscape, and strategic opportunities
- Prepare data-driven analyses to support decision-making
- Create effective reporting mechanisms to keep the Founder informed on organizational performance
Stakeholder Relations & External Engagement
- Manage the Founder's network of external relationships including donors, partners, policymakers, and influencers
- Coordinate high-level engagement opportunities including speaking engagements, media appearances, and strategic meetings
- Represent the organization in external forums and cultivate new relationships
- Organize and facilitate strategic convenings hosted by the Founder
- Build bridges between the Founder's Office and other parts of the organization
Office Operations & Team Management
- Direct the operations of the Founder's Office, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness
- Manage the Founder's calendar, prioritizing time according to strategic importance
- Lead and develop the Founder's Office team, including executive assistants and supporting staff
- Create systems and processes to enhance the productivity of the Founder's Office
- Manage budgets and resources allocated to the Founder's Office
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) in Business Administration, Public Policy, International Development, or related field
- Minimum 5-8 years of professional experience with at least 3 years in leadership roles
- Previous experience as Chief of Staff, senior advisor, or equivalent strategic role highly desirable
- Experience in the sustainable development, environmental, or international development sectors
- Track record of successfully managing complex projects and stakeholder relationships
Knowledge and Expertise
- Deep understanding of organizational development and strategic management
- Strong grasp of the sustainable development landscape and relevant policy frameworks
- Knowledge of governance and board relations
- Familiarity with philanthropic and donor environments
- Understanding of public speaking, executive communications, and reputation management
