Teacher of Art and Design - Creative & Inclusive Secondary School - Kensington

About the position

Are you a passionate and creative Teacher of Art and Design with a specialism in photography? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our thriving Art department in a creative and inclusive secondary school in Kensington. This is a full-time, permanent position commencing in September 2025.

About the Art Department:

The Art department is a collaborative and inspiring team with a shared commitment to fostering students' artistic development and appreciation for the visual arts. We offer a rich and engaging curriculum that covers a wide range of art forms, from painting and drawing to sculpture and digital media. We have a dedicated photography studio with darkroom facilities and access to digital cameras and editing software.

About the Role:

  • Teach Art and Design across Key Stages 3 and 4, with a focus on photography.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities.
  • Guide and support students in developing their photography skills, including composition, lighting, and editing techniques.
  • Encourage students to explore different photographic genres and styles, fostering their creativity and artistic expression.
  • Assess student progress, set targets, and provide constructive feedback to support individual learning journeys.
  • Contribute to the department's curriculum development and resource creation, ensuring that our Art and Design curriculum remains relevant and challenging.
  • Foster a love of Art and photography in students, encouraging them to explore different art forms and develop their own artistic voice.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across the school to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your teaching practice and keep abreast of the latest developments in Art and photography education.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds QTS or equivalent.
  • Possesses excellent subject knowledge in Art and Design, with a specialism in photography.
  • Demonstrates a passion for teaching Art and photography and a commitment to student success.
  • Has strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Is confident in building rapport with students and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Has a good understanding of the National Curriculum for Art and Design.
  • Is committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
