Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages - High Achieving Independent School - Westminster

About the position

Inspire a love of languages and cultures! We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages with fluency in French and Spanish to join our thriving MFL department in an independent senior school with a global outlook in Westminster. This is a full-time, permanent position commencing in April 2025.

About the MFL Department:

The MFL department is a collaborative and dynamic team with a shared passion for language learning and cultural exploration. We offer a stimulating and engaging curriculum that covers a wide range of topics, from grammar and vocabulary to literature and film. We encourage students to develop their fluency and confidence in French and Spanish through interactive activities, authentic materials, and opportunities to use the languages in real-life contexts.

About the Role:

  • Teach French and Spanish across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, up to and including A Level.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities.
  • Use a range of interactive and communicative teaching methods to develop students' language skills.
  • Assess student progress, set targets, and provide constructive feedback to support individual learning journeys.
  • Contribute to the department's curriculum development and resource creation, ensuring that our MFL curriculum remains relevant and challenging.
  • Foster a love of languages and cultures in students, encouraging them to explore the Francophone and Hispanic worlds and develop their intercultural understanding.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across the school to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your teaching practice and keep abreast of the latest developments in MFL education.
  • Contribute to the wider school community through extracurricular activities, such as language clubs and exchange trips.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds QTS or equivalent.
  • Possesses excellent subject knowledge in French and Spanish language and culture.
  • Demonstrates a passion for teaching Modern Foreign Languages and a commitment to student success.
  • Has strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Is confident in building rapport with students and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Has a good understanding of the National Curriculum for MFL and relevant examination specifications.
  • Is committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
