Backend Software Engineer

About the Role Join a small cybersecurity engineering team building an AI-powered platform that detects account compromise in real time. You will own critical backend and distributed systems infrastructure as the platform scales. What You'll Do Design and build systems for real-time signal ingestion, behavioral analysis, and AI-powered decision-making. Architect backend infrastructure to support significant growth in scale. Ship machine learning and AI-integrated systems into production. Establish engineering patterns and contribute to raising the team's technical standards. Partner with company leadership to evolve the core detection platform. What We're Looking For Four to eight years of experience in backend or distributed systems engineering. Experience building high-stakes, data-intensive systems end to end, such as real-time ingestion pipelines, databases, or distributed processing systems. Hands-on experience with distributed systems architecture and database scaling, ideally in a startup environment with broad ownership. Ability to scope, design, and ship projects independently. Proficiency in performance-oriented languages such as TypeScript, Node.js, Python, Go, Rust, Java, or C++. Strong computer science fundamentals and experience in cybersecurity, high-growth startups, or quantitative and trading environments. Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $190,000 to $275,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is available. Location On-site in San Francisco, United States.
