CDL-A Reefer Trainee - Western Regional - Mentor Program

  • California
  • Full-time

About the position

This refrigerated lane was built for one kind of driver: someone who just finished CDL school. Experienced hires are not placed here. Every seat goes to a new driver who wants to learn reefer freight the right way, with a mentor, on regional western runs. If you live around Oxnard, Ventura or the Santa Clara River valley and you hold a fresh Class A, this is written for you. At a glance Training pay: $850 a week Training: 3 to 5 weeks, 200 to 250 hours, with a mentor After training: $1,000 to $1,100 average a week First 3 months solo: $1,000 weekly pay guarantee Miles: 1,800 to 2,200 a week Schedule: about 2 weeks out, then 2 days home Questions new drivers ask Where will I run? Seven western states: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona, with some Utah. Loads sometimes pass near home in the middle of a trip. Will I unload trailers? No. Reefer loads use live load and live unload appointments, but the freight is no-touch. You wait at the dock. You do not work it. Why reefer? It pays more. Reefer runs pay two cents more per mile than dry van, the hauls are longer, and stop pay is higher. Loads from 25 to 99 miles pay an extra $25 on top of miles. Can I take the truck home? No. On your days off the truck stays at the Jurupa Valley terminal. That keeps your driveway clear and your truck secure. Can I bring my dog? Yes, after training is complete. One approved dog up to 40 pounds. A rider program is available to solo drivers. What else do I earn? Up to six cents more per mile each month when you hit 9,200 miles, average 7 miles per gallon and stay accident free. Stops pay $25 each. Before you start Orientation runs two days or less and pays $300 once you are hired. A one-way bus ticket to orientation is reimbursed with a receipt. Your truck will be a late-model tractor, about a year and a half old on average. Benefits after 30 days Medical, dental, vision and prescription coverage 401(k) and employee stock purchase Life and disability insurance Free online college degree for you and one family member You qualify if you have A valid Class A CDL and you are 21 or older Finished CDL-A truck driving school with at least 120 hours No more than 2 moving violations in 2 years No DUI or DWI in 10 years A passed DOT physical and hair and urine drug screen Training classes fill fast.
