Automation Engineer Overview We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to support, enhance, and advance manufacturing automation systems within a dynamic industrial environment. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with cross-functional collaboration, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Collaboration Promote a consistent, fair, and solutions-oriented approach aligned with organizational values Support a positive work environment by identifying skill gaps and contributing to employee development Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to achieve performance objectives Ensure adherence to internal standards, customer requirements, and quality expectations Technical & Engineering Responsibilities Provide hands-on support and troubleshooting for automation systems, including robotic equipment Design, program, and optimize PLCs, HMIs, and vision systems to improve uptime, throughput, and product quality Lead or contribute to the installation, integration, and commissioning of new automation systems Support capital projects, including vendor selection, scope development, and technical validation Implement engineering changes and process improvements to enhance system performance and reliability Develop and maintain preventive maintenance standards for automation equipment Research and recommend new technologies to improve operational capability and competitiveness Training & Continuous Improvement Develop and deliver training for operations and maintenance teams on automation systems and best practices Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, efficiency gains, and waste elimination Track and report on project progress, system performance, and key metrics Additional Responsibilities Provide occasional off-hours or remote support as needed Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications Required Experience & Skills Minimum of 2 years of experience programming and integrating PLCs, HMIs, and vision systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Keyence, Cognex) Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including AutoCAD and electrical schematics Strong understanding of automation systems, including sensors, actuators, and control principles Proven troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving capabilities Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong communication skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams Education Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering preferred Equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience may be considered Work Environment & Physical Requirements Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during the workday Ability to sit for extended periods when required Occasional light lifting Ability to perform repetitive motions and work at varying heights Visual acuity for close-detail work Opportunity Highlights Stable and growth-oriented organization within a resilient industry Opportunities for professional development and career advancement High-impact role contributing to automation strategy and operational excellence
