FHIR Data Analyst

About the position

Role: FHIR Data Analyst Type: Contract to Hire (6 Months) Location: Newark, NJ – Travel to office 2-4 times a month. FHIR Data Analyst (Hands-On Implementation) Serve as a hands-on analyst on FHIR implementation initiatives, supporting design, build, testing, and deployment of FHIR-based data solutions Analyse healthcare data domains (e.g., Member, Eligibility, Coverage, Claims, Prior Authorization, Clinical data) and map them to appropriate FHIR resources and profiles Interpret and apply FHIR Implementation Guides (IGs) such as payer, provider, or regulatory IGs (e.g., US Core, Da Vinci, CARIN) to implementation work Create and maintain FHIR mappings , resource definitions, extensions, and value set bindings Collaborate with architects and developers on FHIR API design , payload structure, search parameters, and versioning strategies Validate FHIR conformance using tools such as FHIR validators , test servers, and reference implementations Support data quality, normalization, and transformation efforts between source systems and FHIR endpoints Participate in end-to-end testing , including unit, integration, and UAT, ensuring alignment with IG requirements and business use cases Produce high-quality documentation including data mappings, FHIR resource specifications, conformance notes, and test scenarios Act as a subject matter expert for FHIR-related questions across technical and business teams Required Qualifications 5+ years of healthcare data or systems analysis experience , with at least 2+ years focused on FHIR implementations Demonstrated, hands-on experience delivering real FHIR projects (not just conceptual knowledge) Strong understanding of HL7 FHIR R4 resources, profiles, extensions, value sets, and terminology services Proven experience working with FHIR Implementation Guides (IGs) and applying them to production solutions Experience with healthcare data standards such as HL7 v2, CDA, X12 , and mapping them to FHIR Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON, and API testing tools (e.g., Postman) Ability to work closely with engineers while independently owning data analysis and mapping work Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder collaboration skills
