Head of Operations Location: Manchester Company: JAMA Logistics Type: Full-time This role is about control, not firefighting. JAMA Logistics is a growing transport and warehousing business with a solid foundation, strong client base, and a motivated team. We are now at the stage where structure, discipline, and operational control must be installed to support the next phase of growth. You will work directly with the Founder / Managing Director, playing a key role in shaping how the business operates as it scales. We are looking for an experienced operator to take full ownership of the day-to-day operation and build a system that runs consistently, profitably, and without reliance on the founder. The Role You will take responsibility for the full operational performance of the business across transport and warehouse activity. Your focus is simple: Protect and improve margin Bring structure to planning and execution Maintain service standards Build a disciplined, accountable team Core Responsibilities Transport Operations (Primary Focus) Full ownership of daily planning and fleet utilisation Direct management of transport planners Ensure decisions are made based on margin, not just movement Control subcontractor usage and HX exposure Maintain consistent and reliable service delivery Operational Client Ownership Act as the main operational point of contact for key clients Maintain and strengthen relationships Ensure smooth onboarding and delivery of new work Work closely with commercial activity to protect margin and service People & Team Management Lead planners, drivers, and warehouse team Set clear expectations and performance standards Address underperformance directly Ensure staffing aligns with workload and revenue Compliance & Standards Operator licence and driver compliance Vehicle maintenance oversight Health & Safety standards Maintain audit readiness Reporting & Control Weekly reporting to Managing Director and Finance Full visibility on operational costs and margin Ownership of operational KPIs Close coordination with Finance on cost control What We’re Looking For Strong UK transport background ( essential ) Experienced planner or operations lead Commercially aware — understands margin, not just revenue Calm under pressure, structured, and decisive Comfortable taking ownership and making decisions Hands-on and present within the operation Package & Progression Competitive base salary (dependent on experience) Performance-related element linked to operational and profitability improvements Clear progression into a Director-level role Potential for equity participation aligned to performance and long-term fit What Success Looks Like Transport margin improves Planning becomes proactive, not reactive The operation runs without reliance on the founder Clients receive consistent, predictable service The team operates with clear accountability
