Materials Technology Engineer – Specialist (Textile Engineering)

About the position

Role Overview Our client is seeking a Materials Technology Engineer – Specialist with strong expertise in textile engineering to support the development of interior textile materials used in vehicle applications. In this role, you will lead the development and application of advanced textile materials for components such as wall trims, headliners, bunks, and curtains , ensuring high performance, quality, and sustainability throughout the product lifecycle. Experience with seat upholstery development and supplier-driven material development is highly desirable. The position requires strong collaboration skills and the ability to independently drive complex technical topics forward. Key Responsibilities Material Development & Innovation Lead the development of new textile material technologies for vehicle interior applications. Drive material development from early research phases through industrialization and product maintenance . Define material specifications, manufacturing requirements, and performance criteria to support product design and business objectives. Identify and develop state-of-the-art materials technologies and emerging industry trends. Technical Leadership Provide expert guidance in textile materials engineering across projects and product programs. Lead complex technical initiatives and support the implementation of advanced materials solutions . Provide training, coaching, and technical mentorship within the organization. Contribute to product and system roadmaps related to materials technology. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement Work closely with design, engineering, and supplier teams to ensure successful material implementation. Manage supplier-driven development activities and support supplier collaboration for innovative solutions. Build strong networks across internal teams, external institutes, and universities to support research and innovation. Innovation & Knowledge Sharing Drive innovation initiatives and contribute to the development of intellectual property . Share expertise and promote knowledge transfer across teams and sites. Support business development initiatives through advanced materials insights. Required Qualifications Degree in Textile Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field 8+ years of experience in materials engineering, preferably within textile materials development Experience developing textiles for automotive interior components , such as: wall trims headliners bunks curtains seat upholstery (preferred) Strong experience with supplier-driven material development Proven ability to lead complex technical projects Strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills Fluent in English Professional Profile The ideal candidate is a recognized specialist in materials technology , capable of driving innovation and influencing technical development across the organization. The role requires a T-shaped competence profile , combining deep expertise in textile materials with a broad understanding of related technologies.
