About the position
Job Title: Mid–Senior Database Administrator (DBA) Location: On-site, Bucharest (5 days/week) Engagement Type: Freelance / B2B Contract Experience Level: Mid–Senior (3+ years) Role Overview Responsible for the administration, stability, performance, and security of enterprise-grade database environments. The role requires hands-on ownership of production systems, close collaboration with development and infrastructure teams, and on-site availability five days per week. Key Responsibilities Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database platforms in production and non-production environments Ensure high availability, performance, and reliability of databases through proactive monitoring and tuning Design, implement, and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies Diagnose and resolve complex database incidents, performance bottlenecks, and data integrity issues Collaborate with application teams on schema design, query optimization, and release support Implement and enforce database security, access control, and compliance best practices Automate routine DBA tasks and contribute to operational efficiency Produce and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and operational runbooks Participate in on-call rotation and critical incident response when required Required Skills & Experience Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in production environments Strong experience with Oracle Database (11g / 12c / 19c); multi-version environments preferred Solid understanding of database architecture, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization Proven experience with backup and recovery (RMAN), performance tuning, and troubleshooting Strong knowledge of PL/SQL and database-level scripting Experience working in Linux/Unix environments Ability to work independently and take full ownership of database operations Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Professional working proficiency in English Preferred Qualifications Experience with high-availability setups (RAC, Data Guard) Exposure to other database technologies (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL) Experience supporting mission-critical or regulated environments Familiarity with automation tools and scripting (Shell, Python, Ansible) Prior experience working in B2B or consultancy-based engagements Engagement Details Freelance / B2B contractual collaboration Full-time availability Mandatory on-site presence in Bucharest, 5 days per week Long-term engagement with stable workload and clear ownership scopePlace of work
