About the position
We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and dedicated SEN Teacher to join a supportive and forward-thinking school in Merton, starting as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher with a passion for inclusive education and experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs. The school provides a nurturing and structured learning environment for pupils with complex needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. Staff work closely together to ensure every child receives personalised support that allows them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The Role As a SEN Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering personalised learning programmes tailored to the individual needs of your pupils. You will create a calm, engaging, and structured classroom environment that supports learning, communication, and independence. You will work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and the SEN leadership team to ensure consistent and effective provision. Building strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues will be central to your role. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver personalised, differentiated lessons Support pupils with a range of special educational needs Create a structured, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment Use assessment to monitor progress and adapt teaching Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and specialist staff Contribute to EHCP targets and review meetings Communicate effectively with parents and carers Promote positive behaviour, independence, and wellbeing Participate in CPD and whole-school initiatives Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Have experience teaching pupils with SEN, ideally in a specialist or inclusive setting Be patient, reflective, and adaptable Demonstrate strong behaviour management and communication skills Show a clear commitment to inclusion and safeguarding Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team What the School Offers A supportive and experienced SEN team Small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios Access to specialist training and CPD Leadership that values staff wellbeing Well-resourced learning environments A positive and collaborative school culture Location The school is based in Merton, with good transport links and a supportive local community.
