Electrical Power Monitoring Systems Manager

About the position

The EPMS Manager leads the buildout and execution of the Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) team supporting large-scale data center and industrial facilities. This role owns EPMS delivery end to end, from system architecture and configuration through commissioning and turnover, while actively developing technicians and engineers in the field. This is a highly hands-on leadership role. The EPMS Manager is expected to be deeply involved in technical execution, field problem-solving, and team development, especially during the early stages of new projects and new business. The environment will not be smooth out of the gate, and success requires flexibility, patience, and the ability to lead through ambiguity. The role supports multiple mission-critical data centers on the East Coast, including three active data center sites in South Carolina, and requires heavy travel. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership & System Execution Lead the design, configuration, deployment, and integration of EPMS across data center and industrial facilities Oversee installation and setup of power meters, protective relays, breakers, gateways, and monitoring hardware Own network configuration, device addressing, and communications using protocols such as Modbus, BACnet, Ethernet/IP, and SNMP Ensure EPMS data is properly integrated into SCADA systems, BMS platforms, and enterprise monitoring tools Establish and enforce EPMS standards including naming conventions, addressing schemes, documentation, and commissioning procedures Review system architectures and network designs to ensure constructability, scalability, and long-term reliability Support commissioning, functional testing, site acceptance testing, and troubleshooting in live environments Team Leadership & Development Build, manage, and mentor a team of 6–10 EPMS technicians and specialists Provide hands-on technical guidance in the field, particularly during early project phases Assign work, balance workloads, and ensure appropriate staffing across multiple projects Develop training plans, field procedures, and technical standards for a growing team Lead with a teach-first mindset focused on long-term technical and professional growth Foster a culture of safety, accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement Project Coordination & Delivery Coordinate EPMS scope with electrical construction teams, controls engineers, SCADA/BMS teams, IT/network groups, and vendors Support project managers with scope definition, labor planning, estimates, and change management Track schedules, deliverables, and resource needs across multiple active projects Identify technical, staffing, or schedule risks early and implement mitigation plans Serve as the primary EPMS point of contact for internal teams and end customers Quality, Safety & Documentation Ensure EPMS installations meet applicable electrical codes, client standards, and internal quality requirements Enforce cybersecurity and network best practices in OT environments Review and approve EPMS submittals, drawings, network diagrams, addressing tables, and as-built documentation Ensure complete and accurate test reports, commissioning documentation, and turnover packages Promote safe work practices during commissioning and field activities Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Automation, or equivalent hands-on experience 5+ years of experience with EPMS, power monitoring, or electrical controls systems Prior leadership or supervisory experience in technical or field teams Strong working knowledge of power meters, breakers, and protective relays Experience with low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems Experience working with industrial and building communications protocols Demonstrated experience integrating EPMS into SCADA and/or BMS platforms Must have previously operated in an EPMS leadership or ownership role Preferred Qualifications Data center power infrastructure experience including UPS, switchgear, PDUs, RPPs, and MV/LV systems Familiarity with major EPMS platforms such as Schneider, Eaton, Siemens, ABB, or Square D Commissioning experience in live or mission-critical facilities Understanding of network segmentation, cybersecurity, and OT/IT coordination PMP certification strongly preferred NICET or similar technical certifications a plus Work Environment & Travel Heavy travel role, typically 75% or more Primary support for East Coast data centers with a focus on North and South Carolina Candidates may be based in NC, SC, VA, or GA Mix of office work, commissioning, and active job-site support Off-hours work may be required to support mission-critical commissioning Compensation & Benefits Competitive pay of $100k–$130k, commensurate with experience Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage 401(k) with company match Paid Vacation, Sick Time, and Holidays Participation in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), providing an ownership stake in the company Why Work for Us?
