Accounting Officer - Insurance Accounting

About the position

Job Title: Accounting Officer Insurance Accounting Job Level: Full-Time Job Type: Contract (Renewable) Location: Kingston, Jamaica (In-Person) Core Functions: Provide accounting support to the Insurance Accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate recording of financial transactions related to insurance operations. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for insurance entities in accordance with IFRS and internal reporting standards. Maintain general ledger accounts and perform reconciliations for insurance-related balances including premiums, commissions, claims, and reinsurance. Support the budgeting and forecasting process through data collection and variance analysis. Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders (e.g., auditors, brokers, reinsurers) to facilitate financial and operational reporting requirements. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of effective internal controls within the insurance accounting function. Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized tertiary institution. Pursuing ACCA, CPA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is an asset. Minimum of two (2) - three (3) years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within the insurance or financial services sector. Specialized Skills, Techniques/Learned Disciplines: Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy in preparing financial data. Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet critical deadlines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism. Ability to analyze financial data and provide meaningful insights. Special Conditions Associated With the Job: Normal office environment. Required to meet frequent deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
