A leading logistics group is seeking an experienced Senior Manager: Legal & Compliance to play a strategic role in managing legal risk, corporate governance, compliance, insurance, and claims across a complex, fast-paced operation.

This is a senior leadership position, reporting into the Head of Legal, and requires a commercially astute legal professional with strong logistics, insurance, and risk management exposure.

Key Responsibilities

Legal & Contracts

  • Draft, review and negotiate client agreements, leases, and major service provider contracts
  • Oversee contract vetting, approvals, and maintenance of the contract register
  • Instruct and manage external attorneys, including litigation matters
  • Handle letters of demand, summonses, affidavits, and dispute resolution
  • Ensure compliance with the Companies Act and corporate governance requirements
  • Company secretarial support, including board resolutions and committee minutes

Risk, Compliance & Governance

  • Maintain and monitor the Business Risk Register
  • Implement and embed integrated compliance programmes across the business
  • Monitor legislative changes and ensure organisational compliance
  • Prepare and present quarterly reports to Risk Committees
  • Support ESG, sustainability, SHE, and corporate governance initiatives

Insurance & Claims

  • Manage insurance cover and claims (including marine liability and cargo)
  • Authorise claims and contracts in line with delegated authority
  • Oversee the claims process and ensure efficient resolution
  • Liaise with insurers and internal stakeholders on insurance matters

Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage and develop legal and claims team members
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across the business
  • Support executive decision-making through reports and presentations
  • Monitor departmental budgets and expenses

Minimum Requirements

  • LLB Degree
  • Admitted Attorney or Advocate
  • Minimum 10 years corporate legal experience post-admission
  • At least 4 years experience at Senior Management level
  • Strong commercial legal background, preferably within logistics, freight, or insurance
  • Proven experience in contracts, risk management, compliance, and corporate governance
  • Solid knowledge of insurance, claims, and sustainability principles
